Always consider the light....
It's a little difficult to answer the questions on this post considering in our group, WAM, we are not necessarily designing a space but rather an object that will ENHANCE the space.
Lighting in our project is an extremely important factor, perhaps not for physical direction, but for visual direction. We have included an acrylic top and shelves to allow for light to cascade down into our cabinet, thus illuminating the contents that will be placed in the cabinet from the gift shop.
There are no artificial lights built into the cabinet itself, for flexibility purposes. We've all had that moment when the power cord just won't..... quite..... reach.... Instead we are relying on the natural and artificial lighting in the space, specifically the light that comes in from the beautiful lobby ceiling to illuminate our cabinet.
The illumination of the interior of the cabinet will initially draw interest into the center of the cabinet and to the merchandise placed there. The eyes will then move to the other spaces in the cabinet, hopefully sparking peoples interest in not only the merchandise but in the gift shop itself!
