When we were asked to create a new header, I was slightly disappointed because I really liked the header that I had to begin with. So, I decided to keep the original while adding slight modifications, only if I could find a just reason to do so.
I ended up keeping the name, and flower, while adding japa malas draped around my name. What are japa malas, you ask? They're prayer beads. They have been used in India for centuries to assist devout Hindus and Buddhists in staying focused during prayerful meditation.
As I continue to grow up, as a person and a designer, I have noticed myself becoming more centered and aware of the person I am going to be for the rest of my life. Japa malas represent this act of becoming centered, allowing and helping me to stay focused during long, tedious studio hours.
I draped them over my original name to represent not a complete rebirth, but a modification, a bettering of the person that I was into the person I am becoming. They're simple, elegant, meaningful, and beautiful.
Also, for my professors. The 109th bead, the one on the end, where the string is attached is where the person in powerful meditation pauses to thank their teachers. So, from my own 109th bead, thank you.
